Liam got to go to Playmobil Funpark and Chuck got to go on the autobahn

June 27-28, 2024

Liam took awhile to figure out the controls

After jamming in all of the old city into the first day, we decided to make this a Liam day. We headed to Playmobil Funpark. It was actually pretty great as it felt like a giant version of all of their toys for kids to immerse themselves in. There was a downpour at one point, but their indoor play space was just as amazing with all of their toys available for play. We made the most of all their water play areas in another hot and humid day, and Anna almost had a heart attack when Liam went to explore in the treehouse area that somehow had more paths and hidden areas than she could have imagined.

As we came back to the city, we made our way to the Nazi Rally Grounds and Documentation Center. We arrived kind of close to closing and there was a massive storm so we decided not to enter the main museum but drive around to check it out. The Congress Hall where rallies took place was massive. We also drove over to see Zeppelinfeld. It is interesting how these sights are now used for every day activities including a car race they were setting up for.

The next day was our drive to Munich. It was Chuck’s first time driving on the autobahn and his inherent love of the left lane came through.

Car Elevator

When planning to drove from Nuremberg to Munich, Chuck of course knew which car museums were on the way. So we stopped in Inglostadt to visit the Audi Museum. Chuck and Liam enjoyed it. The coolest thing at the museum was the rotating car elevator. You would just stand on a level and some historical cars would rotate up and down the elevator to you.

We got to Munich and headed out to try to get dinner at a restaurant we both remember from our last visit here. We got off the train and began walking to it and turned around to find ourselves in the Marienplatz! It is such a breathtaking square! Unfortunately, the restaurant was booked but we found some tasty Uyghur food nearby and it was kind of nice to have a break from pork and spaetzle, until tomorrow at least. After dinner we walked back to the Marienplatz and took it in for a bit. We noticed the doors to the City Hall were open and walked into the courtyard. It was all lit and beautiful. There was also nobody else there so it was peaceful to take in. That was until we walked back to the door and saw it was locked up and a worker had to come let us out. Apparently it was left open by mistake and we were not actually supposed to be inside.
