Overnight to Austria
July 9th, 2015
After an overnight train ride with rain and storms most of the night, we woke up to the beauty of Vienna in the morning. Originally we planned on a quick stop here for breakfast before Salzburg, but the train was late so we ended up staying here for lunch and it was worth the detour! We took a tram tour around the city to get a quick snapshot of the main attractions. Everything from the Opera House, Imperial Palace, and Belvedere were stunning. While on the tram we passed the plaza in from of the Rathaus (City Hall), which turns into a lively outdoor beer garden during the summer and decided this is where we would go for lunch. We wandered around until we found brats and radler and enjoyed them in some shade. We headed to the beautiful rose garden at the Volksgarten (People’s Park) and enjoyed the cool down from the past week.
We hopped on the train to head to Salzburg and even on the ride over knew that it would be a beautiful place. We arrived in Salzburg in time for dinner and headed to Triangel for a delicious Austrian meal. We ordered carpaccio, goulash, and pork belly. Of course we needed dessert we went the house sampler and were in for a treat. It came with an apple raspberry strudel, crepe with ice cream, and a chocolate soufflé. After another amazing meal down we were ready to take in some of the sights at night. We walked around a bit and were able to see the end of a beautiful sunset. The churches, fortress, and cliff walls were all lit up. This is the first place we have each said we could see ourselves moving so far. So, we may or may not see everyone in a few weeks?
