Copenago...We Both Appreciate Summer!
July 24th, 2016
The next day in Copenhagen was spent with the same as the one before, taking in all the sights while relaxing. The city is very walkable so we made our way to the Old Neighborhood and Christiansborg Palace. Here we checked out the Palace Chapel, horse riding complex, and Parliament.
We walked through the city center, which is mostly a bunch of touristy restaurants and stores. However, when we turned down each side street we were able to enjoy all the beautiful buildings and cobblestone streets. We headed to the Round Tower (Rundetaarn), which was built in the the 17th century and later became an astronomical observatory. We headed up it and instead of stairs the path ip is a continuous sloped ramp. From the top we enjoyed overlooking the city and seeing all the red-roof tiles of the buildings. We could also see Tivoli Gardens from the top.
As we continued our walk, we walked through the pier and walked by Noma again. It was a beautiful day, so sunny and warm and every pier was packed with people. We realized that much like Chicagoans, people here embrace every warm summer day they have! Everyone was jumping into the canals and just enjoying the water. We didn’t have our swimsuits (and would have been a bit ashamed after eating and drinking for a month straight), but we joined in by dipping our feet in and soaking up the fun.
We headed to dinner at a small Vietnamese sandwich shop and then back to Dahl & Dahl for cocktails, because they were that good. We made our way back to the Nyhaven where we decided to grab a last minute evening canal cruise. We got to see all the sights from the water, with the sun setting. We rode by the Little Mermaid statue and it was easy to spot because of the large crowd around it taking pictures. It was another perfect night.
