Haaans Across Denmark

July 22nd, 2016

Our first day in Denmark, we decided to travel outside of Copenhagen since we had one more day with our rental car. We first drove Mon to see the white chalk cliffs here. We were not prepared for the full hike this would become and how hot it was! We still had a great time and enjoyed the views. The base of the cliffs are accessible by a tons of stairs and quite the hike back. Needless to say, a dress and sandals were a poor choice. While the views were amazing, the walk was tough and the smell of rotting seaweed was hard to handle.

It's a beautiful site! It was high enough away from the smell but it was also a rest stop since we had (what felt like) 500 more steps to get back to the top!

Next, we headed to Odense. We walked around the city center, grabbed lunch and enjoyed sitting in Munke Mose park relaxing. We also saw the home where Hans Christian Anderson grew up, which was unfortunately closed already.

Even without going into Anderson's house, Odense was beautiful place to stroll.

We got back to Copenhagen in the evening with enough time to walk around and explore a little before dinner. We walked to Nyhaven, which is probably the most photographed part of Copenhagen, with its colorful buildings lining the waterway. The area is probably the equivalent to our Navy Pier and was packed with tourists and overpriced restaurants and bars.

It's very similar to Chicago in that everyone takes advantage of the summer months.

We made our way over the canal to Copenhagen Street Food for dinner, a huge food market, which was packed by the time we arrived. We grabbed some shawarma wraps and made our way back to the water to sit and eat our dinner. We actually sat right outside Noma, the restaurant we had tried to get reservations for months ago. So it’s pretty much like we ate there without spending hundreds on our meal...right?
