Cheese, Meat and Oysters! Oh My!

April 22nd, 2016

Stanley Park from Kitsilano beach.

On our last day in Vancouver, we finally had a slightly rainy day. We realized we had been a bit spoiled with the weather, is the sunshine and warm weather is not the typical Northwest springtime. We headed to the Kitsilano area to check out the neighborhood, get some coffee and wander the beautiful homes. We also walked down Kitsilano beach and enjoyed the views of Stanley Park across the Bay, despite some rain.

Then, we went to Granville Island, a stop we have been eager to make since arriving! We walked through the market and enjoyed all the different smells and types of food around. We decided to head to Oyama Sausage, which we had seen on several shows and ask if they could make us a meat plate for lunch. The owner was called over and was an incredibly adorable man who told us for $5 a person he would make us a plate. It turned out to be the most incredible platter of meats! We made our way to a cheese counter and asked their cheese master to choose a few cheeses for us as well. It made for an incredible lunch. We sat on the dock, enjoying our charcuterie and watching the seagulls try to steal everyone’s food. It really doesn’t get much better than that.

Now this is a platter!

As the rain picked up, we knew it was time to find more alcohol. We found a distillery on the island and enjoyed some tasty cocktails.

We went back to rest and nap a bit before our final night out, however when we remembered we only had one more night to enjoy buck-a-shuck oysters, we knew we needed to find some! Our naps quickly became searching for the best oysters, realizing we only had an hour left of happy hour, and running out to find some. Yup, that happened. We happily found some and enjoyed every bite. Of course that was only our appetizer, and we headed to Los Cuervos for dinner. We enjoyed some margaritas and amazing tacos. In addition to the traditional ones like pulled pork, steak, and fish, we also got to try cauliflower and mushroom tacos which were incredible. We also tried the duck flautas and loved every bite. Stuffed from our appetizer of oysters and taco dinner, we decided to end the night in the best possible way...with dessert. We headed to Earnest Ice Cream and enjoyed some delicious and interesting flavors (green tea, london fog, whiskey hazelnut). Once we finally decided we had eaten all the food we could in four days, we decided to call it a night and get ready for our travels back home.

We were witness to a rapping scavenger hunt at the distillery.

Overall, we all LOVED both Victoria and Vancouver. It truly doesn’t get any better than ocean, mountains, and greenery all around. The weather was incredible, although perhaps not typical, and the air even smelled better! It was a little sad to have to return home so quickly, but we will definitely be back.

Totally worth running for!
